  • December Degree Graduates: Please note that any student expecting to graduate in December 2013 must submit a degree application to Karen Sullivan no later than October. Degree applications can be found in the bins on the wall near the reception desk of the student administrative service center. Students also may email Karen directly at KSullivan@hartford.edu to request the form; please include your mailing address in the email.
  • September and December Certificate Graduates: Must submit an Application for Certificate form to University Studies by June for September graduates and October for December graduates. The form can be found in the "Current Students" section of the website under "Certificate Evaluation Request" and filed electronically.

  • Master Department schedule of classes available: The master schedule for the Department is attached and is also available on the Paralegal Studies table in Auerbach. Please feel free to pick up a copy and plan out your degree. In addition, click here for the 2013 schedule of all paralegal courses being offered.
  • Student Paralegal Association: The Association held several very successful events this past Spring. They started the semester with a resume workshop in which paralegal recruiters and human resource managers reviewed student resumes. They then held a seminar entitled, "Pro Bono Opportunities". Guest speakers were Claudia Magnan of Statewide Legal Services, Melissa Wyckoff of the CT Bar Association and Loretta Martina of CT Fair Housing. They discussed various pro bono opportunities available to paralegal students and graduates. The annual book club event became a movie preview night this year with the movie "Hot Coffee: Is Justice Being Served" shown with a discussion following. If you are interested in joining the Association, please contact Deb Boyle at dboyle@hartford.edu for an application. An organizational meeting will be held in September.
  • Scholarships and Awards:
    • The CCPA/Kelly Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was awarded to Wanda Johnson.
    • The Rebecca Ganci Scholarship in the amount of $500 was awarded to Brandon Seguro. Brandon was also awarded the Christine Beck Lissitzyn Scholarship.
    • The Joan Metcalfe Scholarship was awarded to Shanoa Criss. The scholarship pays for a year membership in CCPA.
    • The CCPA Leadership Award was given to Leah Ahern for her outstanding student leadership.
    • Paralegal Academic Achievement Awards were given to Dinora Vazquez and Leah Ahern with the highest GPAs as degree students.
    • Paralegal Academic Achievement Awards were given to Yessenia Santiago, Stacey LeVine, Sara Ribbens, Diana Rich-Cifone and Brian Rouse with the highest GPAs in the Paralegal Certificate courses.
    • The Student Paralegal Association Award was given to Laura Davis in recognition of her contributions to the Student Association.
  • Foreclosure Clinics co-sponsored by the University of Hartford and CT Fair Housing Agency: On December 20, 2012 the Clinic held it's 4 year anniversary! Click here to read an article on the anniversary. Thank you to everyone who helped start the clinic and kept it running for 4 years! Hundreds of homeowners have stayed in their homes thanks to you! Foreclosure clinics are being held the third Tuesday of each month through December 2013 in which Paralegal Studies students, graduates and alumni may volunteer to assist individual homeowners navigate the court foreclosure process. You must be trained prior to volunteering at the clinics. Clinics are held at the University High School of Science and Engineering from 5:30-8:00 (except for summer clinics which are held in GSU). Please rsvp to Laura Main at main@hartford.edu if you can attend one of the clinics.   • Pro Bono Opportunities for Paralegal Students: There is currently tremendous need for students to assist with pro bono projects. Attached is an article describing some of those needs with CT Fair Housing Agency and The Center for Children Advocacy.
  • Save the date for October 3 through October 6: Paralegals from across the country will gather in Hartford for the NFPA Annual Convention and Policy Meeting. This meeting is hosted by the Central Connecticut Paralegal Association. There will be sessions specifically for paralegal students and Deb Boyle (Program Manager) will be a speaker at the convention on pro bono activities.   • Congratulations Regina Graziani and Janice Favreau: Regina Graziani (Program Director) and Janice Favreau (alum and ABA Advisory Board Member) served this past year as Co-Chairs of the Paralegals Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association. Through their efforts paralegal students can receive FREE membership in the CT Bar Association! Thank you to them both for their commitment to paralegal students!
  • On May 29th the Program held a celebration for academic year 2012-2013 graduates of the program. Lana Glovach was selected for the Advisory Board Appreciation Award. Commencement speaker was Patricia Gagnon, PACE Registered Paralegal ® who spoke about how to become an MVP: most valuable paralegal.
