Student Health and Safety
Swipe cards in the freshman complexes make entrance to the residence halls available only to those students living in that building. Suite and room keys provide further levels of security for resident students. Emergency call boxes are located throughout the campus and a student escort service insures that no one needs to walk the campus alone.
To further assist in providing a secure campus, our Department of Public Safety is on duty 24 hours a day 365 days of the year. Officers patrol the campus on foot, bicycles and in vehicles. Much of the campus can also be viewed through video cameras and personal safety instruction is offered to all students.
Health Services provides health care to students at the University. The health services staff includes nurses, nurse practitioners and physicians. Our health care providers also have access to a wide range of specialists and emergency services when necessary. In the case of emergencies, all of our Public Safety officers are trained and certified as Medical Response Technicians (MRTs) and there are three major hospitals located close to the campus.
As provided by the Jeanne Clery Act, prospective students are entitled to request and receive a copy of the University of Hartford Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. This report includes statistics from the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University of Hartford; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.
The report also includes institutional policies and procedures concerning campus security, sexual assault, missing persons, drugs and alcohol, emergency response and notification, fire safety and other matters.
