- December and May Degree Graduates: Please note that any student expecting to graduate in December 2009 must submit a degree application to Karen Sullivan no later than October. May 2010 graduates must submit an application by February. Degree applications can be found in the bins on the wall near the reception desk of the Student Administrative Service Center. Students also may email Karen directly at KSullivan@hartford.edu to request the form; please include your mailing address in the email.
- December and May Certificate Graduates: Must submit an Application for Certificate form to University Studies by October for December graduates and March for May graduates. The form can be found in the "Current Students" section of the website under "Certificate Evaluation Request" and filed electronically.

- Master Department schedule of classes available: The master schedule for the Department is attached and is also available on the Paralegal Studies table in Auerbach. Please feel free to pick up a copy and plan our your degree. In addition, click here for the 2010 schedule of all paralegal courses being offered.
- Celebrate with Sharon Pope: The Paralegal Program will be celebrating the retirement of Sharon Pope along with the 35th anniversary of the Program. Join us on Thursday, December 3rd in the evening for this event. More information to follow.
- Student Paralegal Association: The Association will be holding a seminar on Monday, November 2nd from 5:30-7:00 where Probate Judge Robert Killian will speak on the use of paralegals in the courts. The event will be held in the Gengras Student Union room 331, Hartford Room. If you are interested in joining the Association, please contact Deb Boyle at dboyle@hartford.edu for an application.
- Paralegal Job Search Seminar: Saturday, November 21st from 10:00 to noon in Auerbach 320, Linda Schultz of the Career Center and Deb Boyle of the Paralegal Program will conduct a free seminar on the paralegal job search. Topics will include identifying transferrable skills for the paralegal profession, making your resume more "legal", how to gain "experience", networking opportunities, job search strategies and what the UofH Career Center can do for you. Space is limited so please register in advance with Deb Boyle at dboyle@hartford.edu no later than Nov. 16.
- Scholarships:
- There are several scholarships which were recently awarded to our paralegal students through CCPA. The CCPA/Kelly Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was awarded to Susan Auclair. Click here for pictures. The Rebecca Ganci Scholarship in the amount of $500 was awarded to Evelyn Navaro.
- The Joan Metcalfe Scholarships were awarded to Caitlyn Parker Bouchard and Sainimere Smith-Clarke. The scholarship pays for a year membership in CCPA and attendance at several educational events. Click here for an article.
- Foreclosure Clinics held the third Tuesday of each month by the University of Hartford and CT Fair Housing Agency: Foreclosure clinics are being held once a month in which Paralegal Studies students, graduates and alumni may volunteer to assist individual homeowners navigate the court foreclosure process. You must be trained prior to volunteering at the clinics. Clinics are all scheduled for the Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford from 5:30-7:30. Clinics will be held on November 17, December 15, January 19, February 16, March 16 and April 20. Please rsvp to Deb Boyle at dboyle@hartford.edu or 768-5466 if you are interested in attending either the training or signing up to assist at one or more of the clinics. - Pro Bono Opportunities for Paralegal Students: There is currently tremendous need for students to assist with pro bono projects. Attached is an article describing some of those needs with CT Fair Housing Agency, Statewide Legal Services and The Center for Children Advocacy.
- On May 28th the Department held a celebration for May graduates of the program. Commencement speaker was retiring professor Sharon Pope who spoke about the growth of the paralegal profession over the last 30 years. To read her commencement address, click here.
