- What is the Bachelor of University Studies program?
The Bachelor of University Studies is a Bachelor of Arts degree program created for the part-time adult student who has previous college experience and seeks to complete a baccalaureate degree. It allows part-time students to design, with the assistance of a faculty advisor, a program of study that is flexible to accommodate individual educational and professional interests and that can include courses offered by the various colleges of the University. - Who is the B.U.S. program designed for?
Since students work with faculty members to create programs of study that are tailored to their specific interests and needs, the program is especially advantageous to several groups. They include busy adults who can only manage a part-time, flexible approach to a college degree; students interested in applying credits earned from other programs and institutions; and associate degree holders wishing to proceed to a baccalaureate degree with maximum transfer of their previously completed work. - Will I have to choose just one area of interest?
With a carefully designed course of study, a University Studies student may pursue a number of academic interests. The University is composed of seven distinctive, degree-granting schools and colleges with more than 1,000 courses on the menu. This flexibility allows each student to pursue coursework leading to a variety of career opportunities. There are three types of honors that B.U.S. students may be eligible for at the University of Hartford.- Option 1: Graduation honors are awarded to B.U.S. students who have completed a minimum of 45 credits for a grade in residence at the University of Hartford. Bachelor's degrees are conferred cum laude on students whose cumulative GPA is 3.25 or above, magna cum laude on students whose cumulative GPA is 3.5 or above, and summa cum laude on students whose GPA is 3.75 or above. Courses taken on a pass/no pass basis are not counted towards the 45 credit minimum requirement.
- Option 2: The University Honors program is designed for
academically motivated students and offers an enriched curriculum and
additional learning experiences. Students completing the honors program
requirements will have university honors noted on their diplomas. For
