CLEP Exam - General Information

The Center for Graduate and Adult Academic Services is a limited test center (Center 3436) for the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). As of January 2009, testing at the University of Hartford is only open to University of Hartford students. The CLEP Program, developed by the College Entrance Examination Board of Princeton, is based on the assumption that many people know more than their records of education suggest. By taking CLEP exams, people can gain academic recognition for what they know and can do, regardless of how or where their knowledge was acquired.

The CLEP examinations are given at the University of Hartford on the following Saturdays at 9:00a.m. and 12:00p.m.:

Students should allow approximately 2 hours for the test.
Registration IS Required

Registering for Exams:

Verify course credit: Before registering to take an exam, it is important to check with your advisor to make certain that the credits for the course can be applied to your degree program. Click here for a list of course equivalents and minimum scores applicable to University of Hartford students.
Complete and mail your registration form with payment: Print and complete a CLEP Registration form. Registration forms are available from the College Board website. Please note: A waiting period of six months is required before a candidate is eligible to repeat an exam.
Two fees must accompany your registration:
- Effective July 1, 2009, an application fee of $72 made payable to: CLEP (waived for military personnel).
- A separate service fee of $55 made payable to the University of Hartford (The service fee will not be refunded if you cancel or fail to notify us of the need to reschedule prior to the date of the test).
- An additional $10 fee must be added to the University of Hartford fee if requesting the optional essay for any exam marked with an * on the registration form. (Except English Composition with Essay)
Check or money order must accompany the registration for the registration to be processed. If paying both fees by check, TWO checks must be mailed with the registration form.

Once registration and payment are received, a seat will be reserved for you. A confirmation letter with a map and instructions for the examination day will be mailed two weeks prior to the examination date.
