Gender Studies

Gender Studies is an exciting program that encompasses diverse disciplines, theoretical approaches, and methods of inquiry. The program incorporates such scholarly fields as sexuality; masculinity studies; women’s studies; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender studies. This cross-disciplinary program is especially committed to gender issues as they intersect with race, class, ethnicity, and sexual orientation.
As a student in the Gender Studies program, you will take courses in both the humanities and the social sciences. Courses may explore gender construction, representation, and dynamics within and across cultures. You will develop useful skills in writing, public speaking, and critical thinking. In addition to the major, the program offers a minor, which is ideal for students pursuing a degree in the humanities or social sciences.
Gender Studies will prove useful in almost any career field, especially nonprofit administration or careers that highlight gender issues. This program can also lead to business or law school.
