Mathematics

The need for qualified mathematicians is greater than ever in this new millenium. If you like puzzles or logic, or if problem solving intrigues you, you can excel in this professional field with a comprehensive program of study at the University of Hartford. Our faculty are at the forefront of current work in the teaching of mathematics. You will also find extensive use of technology throughout the curriculum. For example, all calculus students use graphing calculators, and there is a classroom specifically designed to teach mathematics classes using computer software.

The University offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics. The B.A. will help prepare you for a career in business, education, or technology. The B.S. consists of a broad range of mathematics courses as well as a sequence of three courses in physics. It is designed to give you an appreciation of the applications of mathematics to the sciences, paving the way for graduate work or for careers in engineering, mathematics, or science. Your advanced degree would prepare you for research in such diverse areas as network communications, space exploration, or financial markets.

The opportunities for interdisciplinary explorations with a mathematics degree are boundless. You could combine your undegraduate degree in mathematics with a graduate degree in biology to become an epidemiologist, or with a degree in econometrics to become an economist. The mental training you will have received is good preparation for law school.

"I found the University of Hartford's math department superior in providing me with tools I needed to pursue my career in aeropsace, but more importantly, the teaching staff provided a meaningful and enjoyable undergraduate experience."
