Pre-Medical Professions Advising

If you are interested in pursuing a career in medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry,
veterinary medicine, or other health fields, the University of Hartford is especially
prepared to give you the help you need.
We will assist you in preparing for admission to medically related professional schools,
while completing your undergraduate major of choice. Although many premed students major in
biology, chemistry, the chemistry-biology joint program, or health science, you may select
any departmental major as long as you satisfy the preprofessional school requirements. Whether
you are majoring in biology, English, or engineering, we provide a structured academic program
that will prepare you for further professional studies. Successful admission to medical school
or other professional schools requires applicants to do well in the courses associated with
their majors and in a specific set of courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
Enrollment in our Premedical Advising Program will optimize your chances of successful
entrance into a professional school. You can enter this special program in two ways: either
by demonstrating outstanding achievement in high school or through outstanding performance
in your first semester at the University of Hartford.
The Advising Program for Premedical Professions offers students support and assistance
in assessing and preparing for admission tests as well as guidance throughout the application
process. Because the process leading to acceptance in a doctoral program requires mastery of
complex skills, the Advising Program provides assistance with public speaking, test taking,
writing, and interviewing. You will receive both tutoring and mentoring and assistance in
securing internship opportunities and building a portfolio.
