Architectural Engineering Technology

This program provides a background for a variety of careers in the design and building industries. You will develop an
understanding of how buildings are designed, how to present that design, and what kinds of materials go into the finished product.
You will learn what factors actually determine the evolution of a building and how to communicate that design using architectural
design skills. You will also learn how to select, apply, and evaluate different materials, construction techniques, and mechanical
and electrical systems. Coursework includes studies in design, mechanics, physics, the history of architecture, and developing a
strong foundation in mathematics. Graduates with a degree in architectural engineering technology work in architectural or engineering
firms or construction companies, or pursue advanced study at the University toward a career as a professional architect.
The University of Hartford also offers a four-year B.S. and a two-year master's program in Architecture for qualified students.
Graduates of the six-year program are qualified to sit for the licensing exam to become a Registered Architect.
Architecture students begin their studies in Architectural Engineering Technology. Students then continue their
studies in our Master of Architecture program. These two years are spent in advanced architectural studio courses, which are
related to the integration of computer modeling and design methods, site planning, advanced building and structural systems, and
advanced design theory.
