Bachelor of Science Integrated Major in Elementary/Special Education

There is an abundance of job opportunities in the field of special education. This is an integrated program that allows you to prepare for certification in both Special Education and Elementary Education. Through this program, it is possible to become certified to teach first through sixth grade children, with or without special needs, as well as Special Education classes. This is a rigorous program, because it prepares you to teach special needs students, including those special needs students who are "mainstreamed." You will learn the full range of diagnostic, curricular, and evaluative skills. Then, you'll practice those skills in various fieldwork settings. You will also spend two semesters student teaching one half-day practicum, and one full-day experience. After becoming certified, you'll be ready to embark on a challenging, but rewarding teaching career.

"In high school, there was one English teacher that really inspired me. Now, I feel like I have the knowledge and experience to do the same for my students." --Jeff Holda, Class of 2001
