Respiratory Care

Respiratory care practitioners combine compassion with ability, as they work directly with the patient to help diagnose, treat,
and rehabilitate hose with heart and lung diseases. These highly skilled professionals use advanced technological equipment and a
variety of therapeutic techniques.
Students in this program participate in classes like Respiratory Pharmacology, Pulmonary Diagnostics and therapy, and Mechanical
Ventilation and Resuscitation. In addition, students pursue both on-campus and hospital-based study. Clinical practice placement
begins during the second year of study and continues through completion of the degree. With the help of a faculty advisor, students
also choose two areas of specialization from among the following: pediatrics, adult critical care, pulmonary function, patient
assessment and education, cardiac laboratory techniques, and allied health education, management, supervision, or research. Students
who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the national certification exam.
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP) and the Committee on Accreditation accredit the
University of Hartford's Respiratory Care program for Respiratory Care.
