Multimedia Web Design and Development

(Formerly Interactive Information Technology)
The Multimedia Web Design and Development (MWD2) major will prepare you for work in the dynamic world of the web and Internet. A true Liberal Arts major, MWD2 will help you understand the technological, social, economic, artistic, interactive, and global aspects of the web. The design, development, and maintenance of web innovations include the use of text, artwork, programming, video, sound, and animation in a way that communicates a wide range of human endeavors. You will choose from specializations in Media Arts, Network Management or Administration, Marketing, Advertising, or Multimedia using all of the resources of the University.
Unlike computer science, MWD2 is interdisciplinary. For this reason, the University of Hartford, with its distinctive colleges, is ideally suited to offer this program of study. Courses from the other colleges—such as the Hartford Art School, the Barney School of Business, and the College of Arts and Sciences—supplement the required technical courses in your major. Art courses help you develop a sense of aesthetic design and organization for web pages. Business courses lead to an understanding of marketing, management, and finance related to use of the web. Computer science courses are a valuable resource for our students specializing in Network management and administration. Social and behavioral science courses provide a valuable guide to the global nature of Internet communication and how humans react and respond to this growing cultural phenomenon.
Graduates of this program have gone on to graduate school or to work for corporations including Pratt & Whitney, Aetna, and ESPN.
